Tennis Box Leagues

The new box league assignments are about to be released. You will get your emails from the LTA site as in previous rounds. Don't forget - those emails will have your opponents and will have the link for you to enter your results.

Please note the following:

1. Due to the popularity of the leagues, we've had to extend the number of "main" leagues from 26 to 29. That means there has had to be a bit of a downward shuffle to accommodate new entrants at roughly the right level. So I'm afraid that if you were hoping to go up a couple of leagues, you may find that you're in the same number league as last time. If you thought you were staying put, you may find yourself down a league or two. Shuffling these things is a bit of an art not a science, as is the placement of the players from the newbie leagues. In short, 24 is the new 21 so don't get hung up on the label.

2. It's also quite difficult to manage the newbie leagues as a separate tournament on the LTA site. So new entrants to the box leagues - you are in leagues 30 - 32. Of course this is not (necessarily!?) a reflection of your ability and we'll use these results to place you in hopefully the right place in the next round.

All of this is positive news- more and more people are wanting to play in the leagues and next time around we'll have an additional 18 or so to accommodate.

So, arrange your matches and get playing - remember the point of the leagues is to play more tennis against a wider group of members and it works best the more you play.

If you don't want to be in this round (or any future rounds), please go to your entry and click "withdraw".
If you want to be in the new leagues for this round, there's still time - go to: https://competitions.lta.org.uk/find/ladder?page=1&Q=grafton
Then pick Grafton Box Leagues and click enter.

This round will finish 21 October .

Any questions, or if you thought you were supposed to be in the leagues, but don't get an email from LTA in the next 2 hours, email us at graftontennisleagues@gmail.com

Guest Fees and Serving Practice

All guests must be included in bookings.

Over the last few weeks we have noticed numerous occasions where people have omitted to include guests as opponents on bookings. Members are reminded that in order to keep the option for inviting guests open, fees are required in advance via the correct use of the MyCourts booking system.

Please avoid adding ‘Serving Practice’ as an opponent simply to reserve a tennis court.

Serving Practice should only be selected as an opponent if this is the intended activity. Please rest assured that any fees deducted for guests will automatically be refunded to members' MyCourts accounts should the booking be cancelled in advance.

Guest Hours

Weekdays : 8am - 5pm / 8:30pm - 10pm

Weekends 8am-9am / 4pm - 10pm

COURT BOOKING RULES - TENNIS AND SQUASH

In the spirit of Grafton, we ask everyone to be mindful of our booking rules which are designed to help everyone have a fair chance of playing, and to be able to play safely. This week this is particularly important given that some of the tennis courts are out of action while getting a fresh lick of paint.

CANCELLING YOUR MATCH = CANCELLING YOUR COURT

As soon as you decide to cancel your match or realise you will not be able to play - please cancel your court. This is particularly important for non-daylight hours tennis bookings, when floodlights activate automatically.

If you have to cancel a court, please try to do so as early as possible. If it has to be a last-minute cancellation, then please put a message on The Grafton Chronicle or Squash WhatsApp chat, so someone else can make the most of that court.

OPPONENTS AND GUESTS:

All bookings, including last minute bookings, need to comply with the below rules:

Please state ALL your opponents on your bookings. If practising on your own please select “Serving Practice" or “Solo Practice" as your "opponent". Note these bookings are only permitted during off-peak hours.

Squash and tennis guests are only permitted during off-peak hours.

Bookings with no opponents selected within 72hrs in advance of play will be cancelled.
