Last week was massive mixture of emotions culminating in the BRILLIANT 2022 Fox Trophy. THANKYOU a thousand times over to the organisers: Lady Dano Wade, Vincent of Huckfordshire and Sarah Sazzy D for the most wonderful day...and CONGRATUALTIONS to the winners; Andy (He did it for us) Webster and Lucy (She brought it home) Puddle.

This week’s newsletter is packed with important updates , and announcements of more fun and games . So, find a comfy chair, sit back, and read on to find out more about the following:

COURT CLOUSURES & FUNERAL SCREENING : MONDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

As a mark of respect for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, all Tennis and Squash courts will be closed on Monday 19th September until 1pm. All pre-exsiting court bookings will be canceled.

For those that would like to celebrate her life and are planning to watch it or would like to watch it with others, we will screen the funeral on the big screen at the club. The exact funeral timings are still to be released with a procession potentially starting around 9am, the service at 11am and a two minute silence at 12pm. We will serve a light breakfast for those that arrive earlier in the morning and will communicate further in Whats App Groups once details are confirmed.

WINTER MIXED 2022/23 REGISTRATION OPEN

Grafton's worst joke is back! Yes... the winter mixed will kick start next month and once more brave the darkness ahead.

For the benefit of the numerous new members, the Grafton winter mixed tournament is played in the dark months of the year and lightened by social activities/fun/un-seriousness and bonkers bonus points.

The format in a nutshell, you’ll have two matches to play per month for five months (October to February), before we move to quarters/semis/finals.

You are guaranteed 10 doubles matches , plus a day of fun on Finals day – when everyone plays (SAY WHAT? Yeah! Everyone plays on final day , so makes sure it is in your diary 25 March 2023 )

More info to come soon, In the meantime please grab (not literally) a partner and register on MyCourts. Two options

  • You have a partner - one of you can go on my court and register the pair for £10.
  • You don’t have a partner but want to play – not a problem email us at graftonmixed@gmail.com and we will help you find one.

Play will start on 3rd October so will need all entries by 29th September.

TENNIS MEMBERHIP FEES AND FLOODLIGHT CHARGES

Following the price freeze over the past few years, Tennis membership fees will increase by the sum of £30 for adult peak-time membership packages, £60 for joint adult peak-time membership packages and, £12.50 for adult off-peak membership packages. These increases will be accompanied by the removal of all floodlight charges.

These changes will apply from 1st November 2022, with the zero floodlights charge for social and team practice sessions applicable from 7th September 2022.

A summary of the new fee structure is below

At this point Squash and Junior membership fees have not been reviewed.

JUNIORS DAY : SUNDAY 25th SEPTEMBER

Fun day for juniors led by head coach Alex Kaminski is coming

  • 10am-11am: 7 and under
  • 11am-12pm: 8-11 years

Then a fast-format cup for 12s and over. Enter this by texting or WhatsApping James on 07739 461688.

BAR REFURBISHMENT TO START 20TH SEPTEMBER

Following the close of the consultation of the proposed Bar refurb. CCP a company run by Gary Couzens will perform the works that will commence on 20th September and last for approximately 2 months.

Fear not - we will not go thirsty. A temporary bar will be set up in the conservatory and the volunteer rota will run a usual.

Hopfully you will have seen lasts weeks annoumcent regarding launch of the Grafton Community Fund . This will doante all proceeds from Tennis based tournaments, and selected social events to;

  • The Gary Walker Burscary aimed at improving access to Tennis for children,
  • A charity selected annually by the clubs rmembership

This year the following 5 charities have been short listed for you to vote on
