Greetings Graftonites, This week we look back at the Summer Champs, and look ahead to this Saturday's festivities, and all the way to next Summer too! SUMMER CHAMPS OVER! On Saturday the Summer Champs were finally concluded. The Ladies' Doubles final had been tied at 1 set all, so the competitors played a winner-takes-all final set. After having been down a double break, and saving 3 straight championship points, Dawn and Giorgina just about got the better of Morvern and Melanie. The final score was 64, 36, 75-- the tension and drama befitting of a final. Morvern then dusted herself off and won the Legendettes' Final against the indefatigable Natalie 6-3, 6-0. The scoreline simply does not do justice to the strain and battle that was waged between the two. To recap, the 2016 Summer Champs winners are: Men's Singles - Russell Taylor Ladies' Singles - Giorgina Zinunula Men's Doubles - James Addlestone and David Millar Ladies' Doubles - Dawn Plimmer and Giorgina Zinunula Mixed Doubles - James Addlestone and Jessica Smith Plate - Michael Young Legends- Richard Barker Legendettes - Morvern Scott Congrats to all our winners, and thanks to all for making the Summer Champs such a success! OKOTBERFEST BECKONS Less than 1 week to go! You know the drill: beer, wines, schnapps, fine German cuisine, all on offer in our full-blown OKTOBERFEST. Oh, and did we mention the beerhall soundtrack and the late licence? Games and fun are guaranteed! Get in the mood by putting on your Oktoberfest hat (we may even provide some), bring along friends and family and help us usher in Autumn in style... the more the merrier! Entry is free but please sign up at the bar so we can organise catering WIMBLEDON OPT-IN Yes! Incredibly we are already thinking about Wimbledon tickets for 2017. Please note this is ONLY about the internal Grafton Wimbledon Lottery tickets and completely unrelated to the public ballot. The LTA very kindly provides Grafton with a given number of tickets for the Championships. We then run an internal ballot and allocate them to our lucky winners. The only way in which you can be considered for our internal lottery is if you "opt-in" on the below link: https://www.lta.org.uk/major-events/grand-slams/wimbledon/ballots/ So please, "opt-in". While this does not guarantee you tickets to Wimbledon, the more people "opt-in" then the more Wimbledon tickets will be allocated to Grafton, and the better your odds!
