NEWSLETTER - FREEDOM MONDAY AND WHAT THAT MEANS (Week of 19 July 2021)

Greetings Graftonites,

Today's the day, guys! The bar and club house return to normal. Table service is no longer required, we can actually go to the bar to order drinks etc hurrah! There are a couple of requests we urge all members to be considerate of, as COVID-19 is still with us:
- please drink outside if at all possible
- please consider wearing masks indoors when not seated, especially if requested by the bar volunteers. Masks are available at the bar.
- bar volunteers, please consider wearing masks when serving, especially if requested. Masks are available at the bar.

While sports may return to normal, let's be mindful that the pandemic is still with us and keep up the hygiene practices that hopefully are now second nature to us all.

2020 Ladies’ Singles Plate Juliet Richardson vs Lucy Puddle

We are currently looking at the options for running another tournament this year and plan to communicate a decision on if they will run and the format shortly. However, due to some personal circumstance changes for the club champs committee, we need to recruit 3-4 new committee members in order for this year’s championships to go ahead. The worst-case scenario is that we will abort this year’s champs and our 2020 champs will hold their titles for 2021 as well. If this does happen, we will still need an enthusiastic new committee to kickstart things for 2022.

The time commitment varies a little depending on the stage of the tournament we are at and role you take. As an estimate, it typically involves an average of 1-4 hours a week over 6 months of the year including the time to run the draw and hold the finals day(s). If this year was to go ahead, this time would be more condensed and you would need to be able to commit around 3 hours a week on average from August onwards.

It's all great fun though, and you get the chance to work with and meet lots of different club members. Draw nights and planning meetings often combine with a game of tennis, a meal or the bar so it really doesn't feel like work most of the time!

If you would be keen in getting involved in developing the competitive tournament in the short or longer-term, there are many ways your skills could be put to good use so we would love to hear from you! Even if you would just like to know more and are interested in seeing how you can help, get in touch! If you have ever wanted to take the reins on the tournament, had any great ideas on how you would like the champs to run or are just keen to see it develop in its current format, now is your chance to get involved. We look forward to hearing from you at graftonclubchamps@gmail.com . Thanks!
