GRAFTON SQUASH LADIES CLOSED IS BACK 17-18 MARCH!

Last year saw the return of the ladies' squash competitions after more than twenty years. On 17-18 March, our ladies will be back on court looking for victory in one of the most prestigious tournaments of our Club – the Grafton Ladies' Closed!

Entries are open until 11 March and are limited, so please make sure you register as soon as possible for the tournament!

Depending on number of entries, the competition will be held either under the traditional bracket or round robin model, over one or two days.

We very much hope that this tournament will be supported in great numbers and that this and other squash events will continue to grow and thrive!

Sunday Socials - Moving to a Permanent Home!

With the addition of automated lights and inclusive membership fees Sunday Socials will now move to the permanent start time of 2pm. This will be effective from 5th March.

If you would like to keep up with chat surrounding these marvellous and glamours sessions do join the ‘Sunday Socials’ Group within that part of our WhatsApp community – details below.

SURREY KNOCKOUTS TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

Entry is now open and closes Sunday 12 Mar (update!) . Various singles and doubles tournaments available. Tournaments run from 1st May to 29th July. You can enter here below:

FRIDAY NIGHT SQUASH SOCIALS

Those who have been at the club for many years will remember the Friday night tournaments that Julian used to run. We are going to try and resurrect these on a monthly-bimonthly basis starting on Friday 31st March with a Long Game Tournament run by Graeme and Harry. A sign-up sheet will soon appear - £2.50 per player - with the plan of playing from 7 to 9.30 and then heading for the bar. We can take up to 15 players so don't miss out and sign up soon. We will then be looking for volunteers-ideas for future events

Guest-Fees - Off Peak Hours – Effective 6th March

Shorter nights, warmer weather, summer champs and busy Tennis season is approaching. In order to minimise court pressure, we’ve made the reluctant decision to revert to Off-peak hours only for guest booking.

This will be effective as of 6th March, any booking mistakenly placed after this date will be cancelled and fees automatically refunded.

MILLENNIUM CUP 2023 - THE DEFENDING CHAMPS

The Millennium Cup is a local tennis tournament against other clubs that runs from April-June. It focuses on intermediate players and follows a format of singles, doubles and mixed doubles and is lots of fun!

COURT BOOKING RULES - TENNIS AND SQUASH (Updated!)

In the spirit of Grafton, we ask everyone to be mindful of our booking rules which are designed to help everyone have a fair chance of playing, and to be able to play safely.

CANCELLING YOUR MATCH = CANCELLING YOUR COURT

As soon as you decide to cancel your match or realise you will not be able to play - please cancel your court. This is particularly important for non-daylight hours tennis bookings, when floodlights activate automatically.

If you have to cancel a court, please try to do so as early as possible. If it has to be a last-minute cancellation, then please put a message on The Grafton Chronicle or Squash WhatsApp chat, so someone else can make the most of that court.

OPPONENTS AND GUESTS:

All bookings, including last minute bookings, need to comply with the below rules:

Please state ALL your opponents on your bookings. If practising on your own please select “Serving Practice" or “Solo Practice" as your "opponent". Note these bookings are only permitted during off-peak hours.

Similarly squash guests are only permitted during off-peak hours.

Bookings with no opponents selected within 72hrs in advance of play will be cancelled.

08:00-16:00 Off Peak Tennis
16:00-22:00 Peak Tennis
08:00-17:30 Off Peak Squash
17:30-21:15 Peak Squash

WEEKENDS:

08:00-16:00 Peak Tennis
16:00-22:00 Off Peak Tennis
08:30-14:30 Peak Squash
14:30-23:00 Off Peak Squash

PEAK AND OFF- PEAK TENNIS ACTIVITIES

The below is particularly pertinent to off-peak tennis members, so please note:

SOCIAL TENNIS
Wednesday : Only Peak Tennis members may attend
Sunday: Peak and Off Peak Tennis members may attend

TENNIS TEAM PRACTICES
Monday / Tuesday / Friday / Weekends : Only Peak Tennis members may attend
Leagues and Tournaments: Only Peak Tennis members may participate.

If you believe your tennis booking warrants an exception, or is an unusual booking, then please contact graftoncomms@gmail.com in plenty of time to further discuss. Questions? Please email graftoncomms@gmail.com well in advance of your court booking to avoid disappointment.
