Greetings Graftonites, As summer kicks into high gear, so do the variety of events on offer at our club. Grafton Cup 25 June -Entries now open It's six weeks and counting until this year's Grafton Cup, the premier one-day doubles tournament, on 25 June. The Grafton Cup needs little introduction but for you new members, or those with dreams of Grafton glory, we'll recap: This is a serious one-day tournament but all standards are welcome with cup, plate and saucer competitions. We will have four groups of six pairs in a round robin with the top two competing for cup glory, the middle two battling it out for the plate and 5th/6th place striving for the saucer. Everyone is guaranteed at least six sets of tennis on a great day. Registration will be at 9.30am for a prompt start. Normally the group matches finish around 2pm, with the finals of all competitions being played around 6pm. As we did last year, we will be providing balls and a sandwich lunch. We'll get the barbecue going from mid afternoon and of course the bar will be open throughout. We're also hoping to get some other fun stuff going for young and old so we'd love for you to bring friends and family down to watch. Entry will be £10 per player and you can enter singly or with your chosen partner by emailing graftoncup2016@gmail.com. Places are limited and fill up quickly so email soon to avoid missing out! Email us at graftoncup2016@gmail.com) May Half Term Junior Coaching Here are the details of the junior tennis coaching camps for the May Half Term at Grafton with coaches John, Gary and Steve. We will be running from Tuesday 31st May to Friday 3rd June The times are as usual: for ages 6-16, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. If staying for the whole day, please bring packed lunch. No chewing gum. Please also remember refillable water bottle, hat, sunscreen etc. Sports clothing please; no jeans as the children need to be able to move freely. Footwear: Tennis shoes or trainers with non-marking soles please Please bring own racquet if you have one, otherwise we have spare mini tennis racquets (usually no spare full size racquets). Please note that the afternoon session is matchplay / points play and is therefore suitable for children who can start points, rally and score to at least a basic level. While we don't want to put people off, younger children tend to find this more difficult and are more likely to be tired if staying for a whole day. 6 year old beginners, for example should just do the morning sessions - if you are in any doubt as to whether to go for whole days or not, please do just contact us for advice. The costs are £10 per session am or pm, or £20 full day.
