NEWSLETTER - Summer's in Full Swing (Week of 21 June 2021)

Greetings Graftonites,

Unfortunately today's not the day that further lockdown restrictions are finally eased. Let's keep on respecting the various anti-Covid measures regardless of how tired we may be of them, or of our vaccination status etc etc. Please remember if you or anyone in your household is unwell, please don't come down to the club until you've fully recovered.

In happier news, this week's broadcast covers the following topics:

- GRAFTON ON FILM
- A MESSAGE FROM THE SURREY TENNIS CHAIRPERSON
- MONDAY BAR
- LADIES' SOCIAL TENNIS
- UNISEX FACILITIES
- SQUASH COURT BOOKING RULES
- TENNIS COURT BOOKING RULES
- DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

***If you want to put an announcement in next Monday’s broadcast, the only way to do so is by sending your broadcast to graftoncomms@gmail.com by Friday 6pm.***

GRAFTON ON FILM

We have agreed for a small film unit to use a section of the carpark next Friday morning 25 June - 0900-1400 approx. They will be shooting scenes in and around a police car so don’t be alarmed when you see it! This should cause no disruption and it’s ok to use the carpark while they are there.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SURREY TENNIS CHAIRPERSON

We are looking for a new Treasurer to sit on the Surrey Tennis Council. As you’re aware, the Council aims to advance and promote the game by working with all our clubs and members to increase participation, improve facilities and raise playing standards across the County.

The new Treasurer we’re looking for needs to have an accounting background, but the good news is that the records are kept by a part-time book-keeper who has been doing the job for over a decade. So the key tasks are preparation of the annual accounts along with advice to the Council and Committees on financial matters. This may take 3-4 days per month. The other piece of good news is the current Treasurer would be happy to help the new one during the course of 2021, as they learn the role. Email graftoncomms@gmail.com for a full job description.

When not operating by Zoom, the Council meet at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton five times a year. This is a voluntary role, but there is fun and enjoyment from working on the Council, particularly now that tennis has resumed again. This should be a rewarding role for someone enthusiastic about tennis who wishes to help advance and promote the game. The wider the number of clubs represented on the Council, the better it is.

MONDAY BAR

We're thrilled to announce that starting in July the bar will also be open on Mondays. This coincides with Monday tennis social / team practice. This is a wonderfully social occasion, and it's only right that after a few sets you should "analyse" the evening's tennis at your favourite local bar.

LADIES' SOCIAL TENNIS (Fri 25 June @7pm)

The last Friday of every month the back courts are booked for ladies' tennis. See the "Dates for your Diary" section for upcoming dates. It's a great way to meet other women with whom to have a socail hit. If you're considering joining any of the teams, then come along and meet the captains. Come down for the tennis, stay for the social afterwards!

UNISEX FACILITIES

A reminder that the toilets are unisex. Kindly refrain from using the urinals and be mindful that the facilities are being used by everyone and not exclusively by one particular gender. And of course, face masks need to be worn.

SQUASH BOOKING RULES

When you book a court please add in an opponent - there are 3 choices:

1) enter the name of a Grafton member,

2) enter ***solo squash practice, or

3) enter ***SQUASH GUEST £5 (the guest must also sign the Guest sign in sheet located on a ground floor coat hook when they arrive).

Please note that if you do not have an opponent booked within 24h of your booking yo u risk having your booking deleted . It is imperative for test-and-trace that all opponents are listed on the booking sheets. Also, if you bring in a guest then you are the one to play with that guest - guests can only play with members. You cannot bring in 2 or more guests and they play with each other - this is not allowed!

***Please note we still have to carry out some anti-covid measures. This means that you still have to apply social distancing when not on court, you should still sanitise your hands on entering and leaving the squash court area, and not wipe your hands on the squash court walls. If you are on the balcony watching squash you should wear a face mask.***

TENNIS COURT BOOKING RULES

If you have to cancel a court, please try to do so as early as possible. If it has to be a last minute cancellation, then please put a message on The Grafton Chronicle Whatsapp chat, so someone else can make the most of that court. > Please state your opponent on your bookings. If you're practising your serve please choose "Serving Practice" as your "opponent".
*** Serving Practice is an off-peak only activity.***
