GRAFTON CLUB CHAMPS DOUBLES, LEGENDS AND LEGENDETTES ARE A GO: Entries Open and Closing Soon!

We have loved seeing the Men’s and Ladies' Singles tournaments underway so much, and are particularly excited to announce that we are reopening entries for the rest of the summer tournament categories – including the Men’s, Ladies' and Mixed doubles as well as the mighty Legends and Legendettes!!! They are open now and will be closing Sunday 26th July . You can enter by using the links below.

If you don’t have a doubles partner, you can still enter by the links below letting us know and we will do our best to partner you up.

Plate competitions will run for all doubles tournaments assuming each tournament has enough entrants meaning at least two matches per person. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, if you have a bye in the first round of the main draws we may not be able to enter you in the Plate.

If you have already entered the tournaments earlier this year, there is no need to re-enter. We will be in touch shortly for you to confirm your entry (and give you the option to opt out should you no longer wish to participate). You might want to double check that your partner is around though and happy to partner up with you still!

Once we know entry numbers, we will confirm timelines for the tournament but we hope to be playing the rounds over the rest of the summer with finals in September/October. We expect the first round of these tournament categories will need to be played by the third week of August.

Adult entry fees are: £5 per person per event (so that’s £10 per doubles pair) if paid for before the draw (or £6 per person per event; £12 per doubles pair thereafter).

All going to plan, we will be holding a live draw (including the draws of the Men’s and Ladies’ singles plate competitions) outside the clubhouse the evening of Tuesday 28th July (TBC). The draw will be published online shortly after.

We will be operating a ‘no pay no play’ policy therefore please ensure you are a fully paid up member and have paid your tournament fees by bank transfer before the draw. (Grafton Tennis and Squash Club sort code 20-21-78; account number 70408271 – please use your name as a reference).

Legendettes: Ladies' Over 45 Singles (eligible if 45 in 2020): graftonclubchamps@gmail.com?subject=Ladies_O45_Singles_2020

Please note that in order to follow guidance and comply with LTA guidelines, we may need to alter the format of the tournament and in worst case cancel at short notice. However, if everyone continues to comply with government advice we expect to be powering ahead to some exciting finals in early Autumn.

We would love as many of you as possible to get involved so get entering via the links above.

If you have any questions, please email graftonclubchamps@gmail.com

THANK YOU

A massive thank you to all those involved in getting the bar up and running again, the week 1 volunteers for doing such a great job in keeping us hydrated, and to those prepped and ready for week 2! This has been a real team effort. It’s great to have our bar open once again, with an improved menu, upgraded outdoor seating and more improvements around the corner!

Julie and Andy will be sending out details on the rota and training for the coming weeks very soon. If you would like to get involved in covering the bar for an evening please join our brilliant Bar Volunteers Whatsapp group:

Thanks for your understanding and patience as our intrepid volunteers ‘learn the ropes’.

GOING CASHLESS / BAR TABS

As part of our on-going effort to simplify running the bar, and COVID-19 infection control, please note the bar will be going cashless from Saturday 1st August onwards. Credit and debits cards should be used to pay for all items after this date.

Bar tabs are now no longer available-- a gentle reminder to all those with outstanding tabs to settle these as soon as possible...

OUTDOOR DRINKING ONLY

Many of you have understandingly asked about indoor drinking (especially given the rain last week). Guidelines associated with on-going sanitation, table service, bookings for a limited number of households, and strict social distancing unfortunately mean we cannot open the bar for indoor drinking at the moment.

The safety of those using the bar, and those who are volunteering to help run the bar must remain our top priority. Many thanks to all for the on-going observance of guidelines surrounding the use of the bar. Please remember that the conservatory area is classed as an indoor space, so please refrain from sitting in this area although we fully appreciate the difficulty of wet weather conditions. Parasols will be in place next week and, we are looking at further options to improve our outdoor facilities to help keep us dry!
