THE END OF AN ERA

It is with sadness we announce that John Peters has decided to step away from the position of Head Coach at our club. Whist new ventures outside of tennis coaching await, he will be greatly missed.

John has been a great friend and servant to Grafton for an incredible 15 years and played a leading part in the club’s transformation. The evolution of our coaching program has been very much down to John, and he will leave a legacy for which we can only express our unreserved gratitude.

A Coaching and Facilities sub-committee consisting of Ben Kelly, Stewart Appleby, Murray Sutton and Tim Bannerjee, will convene on behalf of our members with the aim of ensuring the appointment of a new Head Coach as soon as possible.

Whist this process is finalised, Gary Walker will take on the role in an ‘acting’ capacity. If you have any coaching related enquiries please send them in Gary’s direction using the contact details below:

Email : gary.sports.walker@googlemail.com / Tel: 07979203517

John has promised not to be a stranger and he will always be welcome in our little corner of South West London.

John, on behalf of all of us a very, very, very big THANK YOU!!!

QUIZ TOMORROW NIGHT (Wed 19 Sept from 830pm)

As some of you may have noticed the work on the Courts 5-8 has started.

Whislt we await the clay we’ll have limited court availability in the evenings. What better way to keep occupied than the September Quiz?!

Even though we’ll have reduced courts available for social tennis -the Table Tennis tables will be ready to go as will Andy and Gary with quiz plucked from the top drawer.

Come along to the clubhouse, grab a drink, and be ready!

GET YOUR OKTOBERFEST HATS READY!(Sat 6th Oct from 5pm)

As summer slowly draws to a close the Grafton Oktoberfest draws ever nearer. This year it takes on an added significance. Providing the works continue as planned we’ll have new clay courts and floodlights to celebrate.

5pm will mark the start of the first ever Super Social Tennis Session on the new courts, and as the light fades there will be a lighting ceremony for the new floodlights,

Following Super Social Tennis, you’ll find the bar fully stocked with a variety of German Beers and Wines. There’ll be a German Buffet on offer, plus fun games, music and a late licence.

To ensure we order enough food and drink please make sure you sign up at the bar and / or accept the Facebook invite.

Bring an Oktoberfest hat and come down for what will be a momentous night!!!

OPT-IN FOR WIMBLEDON 2019 (entries now being accepted)

In the Summer the LTA allocates Grafton a number of tickets to go and watch Wimbledon. We hold an internal lottery to find out who those lucky winners will be. The only way to be considered for this internal lottery is by opting-in on the LTA website. It takes no more than 2 minutes. The more people opt-in, the more tickets the LTA will allocate to us.

Opting-in merely means going to https://www.lta.org.uk/member/login , logging in and and clicking that you wish to Opt-in.

***Squash members you're very much encouraged to opt-in too-- it's free after all!***
