Greetings Graftonites, I hope you are all slowly recovering from last weekend's shenanigans and made the most of the extra hour of sleep. We were remiss not to mention before our jazzed-up webiste: http://www.graftontennisandsquash.com/ The website and the ever-popular Facebook page are natural complements to the Newsletter. GRAFTON CLOSED SQUASH TOURNAMENT Entries are now open for the Grafton Closed. This is a non-handicapped knock-out tournament to decide the best current player at the club. If you would like to enter then please send an email to Graeme Hogarth (graeme.hogarth@kcl.ac.uk)BEFORE Saturday 12th November. There is a £5 entry fee. SQUASH JUNIOR COACHING These sessions run from 4-5.30pm every Saturday in term time. Only £5 per player – pay and play. Attendance recently has fallen and if we can’t get 6-8 players regularly then we are in danger of having to pull the plug. This would be a great shame as over the past six years we have introduced 50+ children to the sport. One of our first group of players, Andre Bandrath now plays for Imperial College Squash team and this year current players Vivian Hogarth and Daniel Firmin both represented Lambeth in the London Youth Games (winning matches – a first for Lambeth in living memory). GRAFTON TOUR FINALS As of the latest iteration of our ever popular tennis box leagues the race to the Grafton Tour Finals™ begins! The GTF will be an afternoon tournament featuring the top 8 players from the leagues over the course of a year. Much like our esteemed professional counterparts, qualification points will be earned over the course of the year and tallied up to give us our finalists. The first year is set to run on a shortened cycle with the finals played on the 1st July with prizes awarded at the Summer Party that evening. In addition to the prestigious ‘GTF Trophy’ we will be introducing the ‘Grafton Climber Award’ for the individual who has moved up the most leagues over the year and the ‘Murray Sutton Commitment Award’ for the person who has played the most matches regardless of league. Regular updates for the various awards will be sent out with the leagues as well as ‘Race to the Finals’ standings. Further details on the format will be sent out separately to those in the leagues. Deadline for first round matches is 27 November so please check out your opponent and get your match fixed up ASAP.
