Parental responsibilities for 4pm-5pm tennis coaching sessions

Hi everyone, From now on parents and carers MUST accompany their children to the 4pm to 5pm coaching sessions (8 and under beginners) and stay in plain sight for the duration of the lesson. You can handover responsibility for your child for the 5pm-6:30pm session, but you must please bring your child on court and not leave the child until the lesson has started. Parents and carers are still encouraged to watch and support their child. There are two main issues. Firstly, we want parents/carers to stay and participate, in particular helping with throwing balls to their child and catching hits (full training given !) The children really do learn more quickly the more adult support is available. Adults also get a better understanding of how best to help their child improve. Tennis is a game of pairs, and young children can take a long time to be able to cooperate effectively until throwing, catching (and concentration) skills are well developed. Even the older and more advanced children appreciate their parents presence. The other problem we have currently is safety while the construction of our new courts is taking place. The car park is out of bounds until 5pm due to the construction work. Although, the tennis courts themselves are safely fenced off, the paths leading to the tennis courts are hazardous until 5pm because of the diggers and trucks using them. For example, there is no easy safe route for a child to get to the toilets by themselves. If necessary, buggies can be brought in if needed as long as they are kept well away from the action. Fortunately, we have lots of space on the courts and younger children are welcome to watch from a safe distance. We do understand that parents and carers frequently have other childcare commitments. If you feel that you would not be able to comply with these new rules, please do contact John Peters, Head Tennis Coach at johntennis@virginmedia.com or 07801 910264 In any case, please do take special care when coming and going during the constructions works.
