NEWSLETTER - RETURN OF THE LADIES' CLOSED TOURNAMENT (Week of 07 Feb 2022)

Greetings Graftonites,

It's wonderful that the Grafton social, tennis and squash calendars are filling up. However we still want the club to be a safe place for all. We don't want anyone to become unwell or to feel uncomfortable while at the club. For that reason we ask everyone to comply with the safety measures below:


Please wash your hands before and after your games. If that's not possible, at least sanitise your hands both before and after your games. If you've forgotten to bring hand sanitiser with you, there's always plenty available at the bar and in the clubhouse. If you're headed inside the clubhouse you may wish to consider wearing a mask and sitting in a socially-distanced manner. Please also remember to scan the Covid-19 QR code.

Everyone should consider taking a lateral flow test before coming to the club . These free tests can be obtained here:

GRAFTON LADIES' CLOSED – ENTRIES CLOSE ON 15 FEBRUARY!

After a period of more than twenty years without this competition running at Grafton, this month will see the return of the Grafton Squash Ladies' Closed!

Entries are open until 15 February and are limited, so please make sure you register as soon as possible for the tournament!

The competition will be held between the 25-27 February.

Hope you join as this is also a way to unite and celebrate the growing number of female squash players at our Club!

SQUASH HANDICAP TROPHY FINALS AND AWARD CEREMONY (Wed 9 Feb)

After the unexpected postponing of the last stage of the “Handicap Trophy”, finals are now taking place this week on Wednesday 9 Feb!

The Golden Plate final is scheduled to start at 7.15pm. The main-draw and the handicap champion will be known shortly thereafter; the match starting at 8pm between Richard Barker vs Alex Bull!

Both matches will take place during the Squash Socials and followed by the Awards Ceremony at the Clubhouse – everyone is obviously invited to attend and join one of the most prestigious tournament celebrations at our Club!

REGISTRATION NEEDED FOR SQUASH SOCIALS

Before coming to the Club’s Socials on Wednesdays or Sundays, please register and pay via MyCourts:

It’s a simple process:

* Top up your club account - MyCourts ‘Your Account’ menu option

* Register for your selected Social(s) - Mycourts ‘Tournament’ menu option

Bookings can be made and cancelled at any time, and all major cards are accepted.

This allows us to control who’s coming, avoid overcrowding and ensure compliance given the current pandemic situation. Please make sure you comply with this request before coming to the Club’s Socials and we hope to see you all on court!

COURT BOOKING RULES - TENNIS AND SQUASH

In the spirit of Grafton, we ask everyone to be mindful of our booking rules which are designed to help everyone have a fair chance of playing, and to be able to play safely.

If you have to cancel a court, please try to do so as early as possible. If it has to be a last-minute cancellation, then please put a message on The Grafton Chronicle or Squash WhatsApp chat, so someone else can make the most of that court. All bookings, including last minute bookings, need to comply with the below rules:

Please state your opponent on your bookings.
If practising on your own please select “Serving Practice" or “Solo Practice as your "opponent". Note these bookings are only permitted during off-peak hours.

All bookings with no opponents selected within 72 Hrs (tennis) or 48 Hrs (squash) in advance of play will be cancelled.

Please bear in mind the below hours:

WEEKDAYS:

08:00-16:00 Off Peak Tennis
16:00-22:00 Peak Tennis
08:00-17:15 Off Peak Squash
17:15 -21:00 Peak Squash

WEEKENDS:

08:00-16:00 Peak Tennis
16:00-22:00 Off Peak Tennis
All-day off peak squash

PEAK AND OFF- PEAK TENNIS ACTIVITIES

The below is particularly pertinent to off-peak tennis members, so please note:

SOCIAL TENNIS
Wednesday : Only Peak Tennis members may attend
Sunday: Peak and Off Peak Tennis members may attend

TENNIS TEAM PRACTICES
Monday / Tuesday / Friday / Weekends : Only Peak Tennis members may attend
Leagues and Tournaments: Only Peak Tennis members may participate
