NEWSLETTER - MAY BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 2017

Greetings Graftonites:

We hope you are having a great Bank Holiday! We also hope that maybe you've had time to squeeze in your Summer Champs match this weekend too, if you haven't already as the deadlines loom large. But this week we wanted to draw your attention to the main item in today's broadcast: The 2017 Grafton Cup!

- GRAFTON CUP
- DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

***If you wish to put an announcement in next Monday’s broadcast, the only way to do so is by sending your broadcast to graftoncomms@gmail.com by Friday 6pm.***

GRAFTON CUP 24 JUNE- ENTRY NOW OPEN

Some of you have been eagerly anticipating this announcement practically all year so we are very happy not to disappoint. This year's Grafton Cup has been confirmed for SATURDAY 24 JUNE and we are now accepting entries!

What is the Grafton Cup?

Well we may be biased, but it's the premier one-day doubles event at the Grafton, nay South London... heck the world if we're not being modest! It is a competitive tournament, but one which caters to all standards. 24 doubles pairs will be split into four round robins, playing a set against each other. The top two in each group will go forward to the Cup competition, the middle two to the Plate and the 5th and 6th players will fight it out for the Saucer.

In short all players are guaranteed at least six sets of doubles and a chance at some silverware (or crockery depending on how far the budget stretches).

How Can I Enter?

Please email your entry to graftoncup@gmail.com. You may enter in your tried and tested doubles pairings, or for those lone wolves amongst us, we will pair you up on the day. It could be the start of something special! Basically if you are free on 24 June and want to play doubles, we'll expect to hear from you!

The Grafton Cup has been heavily oversubscribed in recent years and so you should enter quickly to ensure your spot. Latecomers will be added to the reserve list but we can't make any promises to accommodate you.

Please note that plays starts at 1000 prompt, with group matches finishing around 1400. Knock-outs will start soon after and we'd expect the finals to take place around 1730-1830. You should make sure you're available for the whole day. We're also pretty hardy souls at the Grafton so we'll be playing no matter the weather!

What Does It Cost?

Entries will be £10 per person as in previous years. This includes balls, prizes and a sandwich lunch to keep us all going. Payment will be taken on the day.

How Else Can I Get Involved?

As you might imagine running a one day tournament like this can be a test of even the finest logistical skills. If you're happy to help out with the organisation in advance or on the day, please do get in touch. We'd be especially pleased to hear from you if you have any fun ideas to make this a great day out for players, spectators and family alike. Emails to graftoncup@gmail.com please.
