NEWSLETTER - We're very happy to announce that...

Greetings Graftonites,

Two important announcements in this week's bulletin, which reflect how we're slowly trying to return to normal conditions. However we can't be complacent, and need to be ever mindful of LTA and government guidelines. Having said that, the announcements are pretty exciting, so do read on:

- DOUBLES PLAY PERMITTED
- SUMMER CHAMPS ARE ON AGAIN
- DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

***If you want to put an announcement in next Monday’s broadcast, the only way to do so is by sending your broadcast to graftoncomms@gmail.com by Friday 6pm.***

DOUBLES PLAY NOW PERMITTED

In line with LTA guidelines relating to the latest government COVID-19 advice, we are pleased to announce that tennis doubles play is now permissible.

Note: In order to manage court pressure and, more importantly to ensure everyone that play fully adheres to the safety guidelines, club access is strictly limited to members only . It is disappointing to see a few members continuing to arrange sessions with guests, we have a shared responsibility to keep each other safe and well.

Leagues, teams and social sessions remain suspended.

Toilet facilities remain closed along with all areas of the club apart from the tennis courts. First aid kits are available outside the rear of the club house. Please bring adequate water and hand sanitisation with you.

Full LTA guidelines for players are available here:

https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2020/lta-guidance-for-tennis-players---covid-19.pdf

Some points to consider:

- Both singles play and doubles play is now permitted with people from outside of your household, as long as you remain 2 metres apart as far as possible –meaning that four people from different households can now play doubles;

- Stay at least two metres away from other players (including during play, when taking breaks and before and after play);

- Do not make physical contact with other players (such as shaking hands or high fives);

- Avoid chasing the ball down to another court if other players are using it;

- For doubles, consider agreeing in advance which player will take the shot if a ball travels to the centre of the court;

- Hand hygiene is imperative - use alcohol gel to clean your hands after touching a shared surface. Please bring your own hand gel we are still in process of scouring supplyies for for the club;

- Players should avoid using their hands to pick up tennis balls from other courts where possible - use your racquet/foot to return them;

- Avoid using other equipment such as courtside benches, net handles where possible. On court benches will be removed this week.

- Where attendance of a parent/guardian (non-participant) is required, or a carer for a disabled player, it is permitted and is not counted as part of the maximum group size of six, but should be off court and limited to one per player where possible, adhering to social distancing rules.

GRAFTON CLUB CHAMPS SINGLES ARE A GO: Entries Open and Closing Soon!

As a first step to getting the names on the coveted board this year, we are re-opening entries for the Summer Champs Ladies and Men's Singles!!! They are open now and will be closing next Monday 8th June . You can enter by using the links below.

Singles plates will run for both tournaments assuming each tournament has enough entrants meaning at least two matches per person.If you have already entered the tournaments earlier this year, there is no need to re-enter. We will be in touch shortly for you to confirm your entry (and give you the option to opt out should you no longer wish to participate).

Once we know entry numbers, we will confirm timelines for the tournament but we hope to be playing the rounds over the summer with finals in September/October. We expect the first round will need to be played by the end of June.

Adult entry fees are: £5 per person per event if paid for before the draw (or £6 per person per event thereafter). All going to plan, a live zoom tournament draw is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 9th June (Time and Access Link TBC). The draw will be published online shortly after. We will be operating a ‘no pay no play’ policy therefore please ensure you are a fully paid up member and have paid your tournament fees by bank transfer before the draw. (Grafton Tennis and Squash Club sort code 20-21-78; account number 70408271 – please use your name as a reference).

Ladies' Singles: graftonclubchamps@gmail.com?subject=Ladies_Singles_2020

Please note that in order to follow guidance and comply with LTA guidelines, we may need to alter the format of the tournament and in worst case cancel at short notice. However, if everyone complies to government advice we hope to be getting more tournament categories underway in due course!

Although we hope to be able to run all tournaments this summer, we can't confirm all the details at this stage. Our first step is to get the main singles draws underway and we will consider reopening the Legends/Legendettes and doubles tournaments later this month. We will update on progress at the end of June. In the meantime, we would love as many of you as possible to get involved in the Men's and Ladies' Singles so get entering via the links above.
