Greetings Graftonites, We've had a massive weekend, haven't we? We won the MILLENNIUM CUP!!! The magnificent trophy is ours after a hard-fought and tense victory yesterday over Norbury Park. Facebook tells us that even Judy Murray sends us her congrats...! FINAL FINALS DAY The Summer Champs come to their conclusion on Sat 24 Sept, at 1pm . Please find below the order of play: 1pm Ladies' Doubles Final Set Dawn Plimmer and Giorgina Zinunula vs Morvern Scott and Melanie Gibbs After Dawn and Giorgina won the first set 64, Morvern and Mel tied things up by winning the second set 63. All to play for in a one-set winner takes all. This is then followed by: Legendettes' Final Morvern Scott vs Natalie Lyons This final is a repeat of the Surrey Knockouts Legendettes' Final held in Purley just a few months ago. In short, two finals to be held on Saturday. Come down and bring some good cheer and let's make this a fitting finale to the Summer Champs! SQUASH HANDICAP TOURNAMENT This was launched earlier in the year but fell by the wayside so we are re-launching with the aim of completing the competition before the end of the year. £5 per person with a guarantee of at least two matches – hopefully many more! Please email Graeme Hogarth (graeme.hogarth@kcl.ac.uk OR hogarth143@btinternet.com) by Friday 30th September if you would like to be included. If you have already paid, then please still send an email to Graeme, to be on the safe side. JUNIOR SQUASH Junior Squash returns for its fifth year. We meet from 4-5pm on Saturdays in term time. Players aged 8-18 of all standards are welcome; we can provide rackets, goggles (mandatory for juniors), balls and a lot of fun. Members and non-members are welcome. £5 per session pay and play. Contact Graeme Hogarth (graeme.hogarth@kcl.ac.uk OR hogarth143@btinternet.com) for more information. SQUASH TEAMS IN SURREY CUP We run three teams (five per team) in the Surrey Cup Competition. The Winter Leagues will start in mid-October. We need to nominate players in advance of the matches starting, so if you have not previously played but you would like to be added to the nominations then please contact Peter Gray (peter.s.gray@btinternet.com) before the 1st October. FOX TROPHY OMISSIONS In last week's edition we were remiss not to also thank our very own star baker, Melanie Gibbs , for some scrumptious cup cakes! We also wanted to thank you, all of you, for the £96 that was raised from the sweepstakes to help go towards Eddie Tomlinson's Skydive, in aid of the Poppy Factory. This is an amazing charity that helps disabled veterans find meaningful, rewarding and sustainable employment. The remaining money made from the entry fees will be re-invested in our Social Fund to help keep our social scene buzzing. Thanks to all for your generosity. HERB GARDEN You may or may not have noticed that our wonderful head gardener Julie has planted a small selection of herbs between the Court 1 benches. Feel free to grab a sprinkling and you can think of the club as you eat! There is a grander project to establish and maintain an allotment-style vegetable garden for the benefit of all. This requires commitment and effort from a few people so if interested please talk to Murray.
